Senate Approves Bill to Release Epstein Files

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a bill that will mandate the disclosure of case documents related to the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a almost unanimous vote in the US House of Representatives and a change of position by the president and his GOP allies. The administration relented after an extended period of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a controversy that has plagued the president since his comeback to the White House.

Swift Passage in Congress

Senators proceeded by consensus, which requires approval from each senator but does not require a formal roll call vote, speeding up the process. Just before, the House voted decisively for the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

The public have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have suffered long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before urging the Senate to pass it unanimously. “Reveal the truth. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next goes to Trump for his approval. Trump stated on the previous day that he would approve the bill.

Even though Trump has for months rejected the uproar over the official management of the scandal as a “political stunt”, he signalled his support for the House bill over the weekend, and said he would sign the measure if it reaches his desk.

Response

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their representatives who were seated in a House gallery, broke into applause after the bill was enacted. Lone dissent came from Clay Higgins, who stated he feared the measure would make public specific data of people, persons of interest and others caught up in the investigation.
